The answer
Checked October 20, 2026: a solar warranty usually has two parts. The manufacturer’s product warranty generally survives an installer bankruptcy, because the maker, not the installer, backs it. The installer’s workmanship and roof warranty is, in our assessment, only as good as the installer. Labor is the gap: SolarEdge’s August 2025 warranty text, for example, excludes it.[8]
If you still owe on a solar loan, lease or PPA, see if a solar contract exit company can look at your options. No cost to submit. We do not file warranty claims or repair systems.
The two solar warranties you have
- Manufacturer (product) warranties on panels, inverters, optimizers and batteries. These come from the companies that made the parts. They usually cover the part; whether they pay the labor to swap it varies by brand.[10]
- Installer (workmanship) warranty on the installation itself: wiring, mounting and often the roof under the panels. EnergySage says solar companies’ roof warranties typically last about 10 years.[11] When the installer is in bankruptcy or closed, this promise is only as strong as what is left of the company.
So after an installer bankruptcy, a failed part is often still covered, but you may pay a new solar company to diagnose it and do the swap.[10]
Who honors your solar warranty now, by brand
| Equipment | Warranty position | Where to go |
|---|---|---|
| SunPower-branded panels made by Maxeon | Maxeon said in August 2024 it would support warranty coverage on SunPower-branded Maxeon panels, working through your installer. Panels only: not microinverters, racking or batteries.[1][2] | Maxeon’s SunPower warranty address now redirects to a “SunPower Legacy” technical documents library (checked October 20, 2026).[3] Ask a Maxeon-certified installer to file for you. Maxeon itself has been under judicial management in Singapore since May 2026: what that means for the warranty. |
| SunPower lease or PPA; Sunnova; some PosiGen accounts | SunStrong Management took over about 110,000 former SunPower customers (Q3 2024), about 400,000 former Sunnova customers (Q3 2025) and a portion of PosiGen customers (Q1 2026).[4] | Contact SunStrong; it says payment arrangements stay the same.[5] See SunStrong Management. |
| Enphase microinverters | Enphase describes a 25-year limited warranty on IQ Microinverters, with labor reimbursement that installers can extend to 5 or 10 years from activation.[6] | Enphase Care for homeowners: from $399 a year, $0 on-site labor on covered repairs.[7] |
| SolarEdge inverters and optimizers | Power optimizers 25 years; inverters 12 years (7 in some countries). Transferable to a new owner. Its August 2025 warranty text excludes labor unless SolarEdge agrees in writing; ask about labor before work starts.[8] | Check the warranty end date with the serial number and open a support case through SolarEdge's “I Have a Warranty Question” page (solaredge.com). Keep the serial number and your receipt or warranty certificate ready.[8] |
| LG panels | LG exited solar panels on Feb 22, 2022 and said it would honor the limited warranty on each product sold.[9] | LG pointed owners to LG.com/SolarNotice and 1-833-388-2121 (2022).[9] See LG solar panel warranty. |
| Tesla equipment | EnergySage says Tesla’s standard warranty covers labor for its inverters.[10] | Contact Tesla first for Tesla-installed systems. |
| Meyer Burger panels | Meyer Burger's US units liquidated in 2026. Who honors module warranties is not confirmed. | See Meyer Burger bankruptcy. |
| Any other brand | The panel or inverter maker, under the warranty in your contract packet or on its website. | Have the model and serial numbers ready. |

How to file a solar warranty claim when your installer is gone
- Gather your documents: contract, warranty certificates, and the model and serial numbers of the panels and inverter. SolarEdge, for example, requires a legible serial number and a receipt or warranty certificate.[8]
- Record the problem: screenshots from the monitoring app with dates, and photos of any visible damage.
- Contact the manufacturer and ask whether it takes claims from homeowners directly and which local companies are authorized to work on its equipment. EnergySage says manufacturers can often recommend them.[10]
- Hire a certified company to diagnose and file the claim with you; uncertified work can void the warranty.[10] Confirm certifications in the NABCEP directory.[12]
- Expect a wait for panel claims. Enphase, which files panel warranty requests for Enphase Care members, describes a 6 to 8 week manufacturer review.[7]
- Keep every email and claim number.

What solar warranties usually exclude
Read the exclusions before you pay for a diagnosis. SolarEdge’s limited warranty, as one example, excludes cables, fuses, wires and connectors, and damage from misuse, improper installation, unauthorized opening or modification, power surges, lightning, fire, flood, pests and similar events.[8] The August 2025 text also excludes on-site labor, travel, and uninstalling and reinstalling unless SolarEdge agrees in writing in advance.[8]
Labor costs to budget: solar panel repair cost. Roof work under the panels: removal and reinstall for a new roof.
Leases and PPAs: the owner handles the warranty
If you lease or buy power under a PPA, the company that owns the system deals with the manufacturers. When SunStrong takes over an account, it says the originator no longer manages the system and SunStrong aims to provide reliable service for it; payment arrangements stay the same.[5] Report the problem to whoever you pay, in writing. Note the limit: SunStrong says it does not provide maintenance for loan customers or for customers who own their systems outright, including paid-off contracts.[13]
If a warranty claim is refused
Ask for the refusal and the reason in writing, then compare it with the warranty text. Our solar panel warranty disputes guide covers the dispute process and federal warranty law. If the installer is in bankruptcy, a claim against it generally goes through the bankruptcy case; our company pages above track the cases we cover.
We do not advise homeowners to stop making payments or breach contractual obligations, even when a warranty is not honored. Talk to a qualified attorney licensed in your state about your options.
