The answer
Checked October 21, 2026: MC Solar (Modern Concepts Construction LLC and Modern Concepts Solar and Roofing Inc. of Tampa) is out of business. The Florida Attorney General sued the companies, a related finance entity and three owners on November 7, 2023 under the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act,[1][2] and in March 2024 said the company was no longer doing business in Florida.[3] No bankruptcy case was found. If you financed a system, you still pay the lender on your statement while the case runs.

Status: out of business, lawsuit pending
On November 7, 2023 the Florida Attorney General filed a civil complaint in Hillsborough County against the MC Solar companies and three individuals the complaint calls their owners and managers.[1] The State's release the same day said the company "scammed hundreds of Floridians, including seniors, persons with disabilities and veterans," and that the suit seeks to ban the defendants from doing business in Florida and to recover restitution.[2]
On March 5, 2024, WFTV reported that the Attorney General announced MC Solar was no longer doing business in Florida after abandoning hundreds of contracts.[3] We found no bankruptcy petition for any of the three companies, no judgment and no settlement as of October 21, 2026; the Hillsborough County docket was not available to us. Our bankruptcy register row for MC Solar tracks it alongside 90 other failed solar companies.

What the Florida Attorney General alleges
Everything in this section is what the State alleges in its complaint and release. None of it has been proven, and the defendants can contest it.[1][2]
- The alleged pattern: the companies "performed all steps required to market and commit the consumer," then took the money "without installing the solar systems," abandoning jobs at various stages.[1]
- Lender funding: under their agreements with third-party lenders, the contractors certified funding milestones and the lenders deposited funds; the complaint alleges the defendants paid themselves after financing was approved and did not finish the installations.[1]
- The alleged harm: homeowners left with no working system but a monthly loan payment and a full electric bill; homes damaged by defective design, permitting and installation; systems that failed inspection or were never connected to the grid; and liens on homes after the companies failed to pay subcontractors and suppliers.[1][2]
- Sales claims: the State says consumers were enticed with federal tax incentives, guaranteed 25-year warranties and misrepresented financing costs and interest rates.[2]
- After cancellation: the release says that when some consumers cancelled, the defendants sent demand letters with increased invoices and attorney fees.[2]
- Counts: FDUTPA (Count I), FDUTPA through the Florida Home Solicitation Sale Act (Count II) and FDUTPA through Chapter 520, Part II, which governs distributed energy generation system sales (Count III).[1]
- What the State asks for: a judgment against the defendants jointly and severally, an injunction, consumer restitution and disgorgement, and civil penalties of $10,000 for each willful violation.[1]
If you have a loan: keep paying, and dispute in writing
- The loan is separate from MC Solar. The complaint describes financing through third-party lenders, so your debt is owed to the lender on your statement, and the Attorney General's suit does not cancel it.[1]
- Use the Holder Rule notice. Most installer-arranged consumer loans carry the FTC Holder Rule notice, which lets you raise the installer's failure to perform as a defense or claim against the lender, up to the amount you have paid.[4] Send the lender a written dispute with your contract, photos, permit and inspection records and a timeline. See the FTC Holder Rule and solar loans.
- Do not stop paying on your own. We do not advise homeowners to stop making payments or breach contractual obligations; missed payments damage your credit and weaken your position.
- Not sure who you owe? Use who services my solar loan.

Warranty and repairs after MC Solar
With the company out of business, its workmanship warranty and the 25-year warranty the State says it promised are effectively gone.[2] Equipment warranties come from the panel, inverter and battery manufacturers and usually survive; register directly with each one: warranty after an installer failure. Florida rules, including the state's 3-business-day solar rescission right: Florida solar panel laws.

Frequently asked questions
Is MC Solar still in business?
No. In March 2024 the Florida Attorney General said MC Solar was no longer doing business in Florida, after a November 2023 lawsuit alleging it abandoned hundreds of contracts. The complaint says the companies operated from about March 2021 through December 2022. No bankruptcy filing was found as of October 21, 2026.
Who is being sued in the MC Solar lawsuit?
The Florida Attorney General sued Modern Concepts Construction LLC, Modern Concepts Solar and Roofing Inc., MCSolar Capital Group LLC and three individuals, Raman Danny Chopra, Michael Benjamin Crowder and Armando Bartolo Almirall, Jr., in Hillsborough County circuit court on November 7, 2023. The claims are allegations under the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act; no judgment was found in our review.
Do I still have to pay my loan for an MC Solar system?
Generally yes. The loan is owed to the lender on your monthly statement, not to MC Solar, and the Attorney General's suit does not cancel it. We do not advise homeowners to stop making payments or breach contractual obligations. If the system was never finished or never worked, put a written dispute to the lender and ask it to apply the FTC Holder Rule notice in your contract.
How do I file a complaint about MC Solar?
File with the Florida Attorney General through its online complaint form, and with the CFPB if the problem is with the lender. Keep your contract, loan documents, permits, inspection results and every message with the company.
Is there a settlement or refund for MC Solar customers?
Not that we could confirm. The Attorney General asked the court for restitution, an injunction and civil penalties, but as of October 21, 2026 we found no judgment, settlement or claims process for MC Solar customers. Check the Attorney General's site for updates.
Which lenders financed MC Solar systems?
The complaint says MC Solar used several third-party lenders and did not name them. The lender for your system is the company on your monthly statement; our who-services-my-solar-loan lookup can help you identify it.
