The answer
Checked October 20, 2026: Dividend Finance is a division of Fifth Third Bank, which completed its acquisition of Dividend in May 2022.[3] You pay through Dividend's Customer Portal. Dividend says it charges no prepayment penalty, takes 0.5% off the APR for autopay, and lets a qualified buyer assume the loan once the full Incentive Investment payment is made.[1][2]
Our partner Solar Exit Group (Uso Holdings LLC) takes solar loans from any lender except Tesla. No cost to submit. Paid partner; it does not change our ratings.
Who services my Dividend Finance loan?
Dividend describes itself as "Dividend, a Division of Fifth Third Bank".[1] Dividend announced on May 10, 2022 that Fifth Third had completed its acquisition, and that Dividend's president, Eric White, joined Fifth Third as president of Dividend Finance.[3] Dividend's homeowner page still handles payments, autopay and statements under the Dividend name.[1]

Autopay: Dividend says enrolling in automatic payments lowers your APR by 0.5%, and you set it up in the Customer Portal.[1]
The Incentive Investment payment and re-amortization
Many solar loans assume you will pay down a large lump sum, often from a tax credit. The CFPB says it is commonplace for solar-specific loans to re-amortize at a higher monthly payment at the 19th month if that prepayment is not made, and that the expected prepayment is frequently 30% of the principal.[5] The federal Residential Clean Energy Credit is not available for property placed in service after December 31, 2025.[9]
Dividend's own rules: after the first re-amortization tied to the Incentive Payment, you can request two more. Each needs a principal payment of at least $1,000, a remaining balance of at least $5,000 and an account in good standing, and you request it through customer service.[1] Check your loan agreement for the exact Incentive Investment amount and date.
Dividend loan payoff and lien release
Dividend says it does not charge prepayment penalties, so you can pay off at any time.[1] For a payoff quote, call (844) 805-7100, option 1 then 3, and give your closing date.[2]
After payoff, get the lien released. Under UCC Section 9-513, for consumer goods the secured party must cause a termination statement to be filed within one month after nothing is owed, or within 20 days after it receives your authenticated (signed or electronic) demand if that is sooner. State versions vary.[7] Our UCC lien removal guide has a demand letter.
Selling a house with a Dividend loan: pay off or transfer
- Pay it off at closing with a payoff quote dated to your closing date.[2]
- Transfer it to the buyer. Dividend says the loan may be assumed by your buyer if the buyer meets its credit requirements and is approved. The buyer completes the Dividend Assumption Application, you start the transfer in the account portal, and the full Incentive Investment payment must be satisfied before the loan can transfer.[2] Dividend publishes a Home Sale Guide (PDF) with the details.

Dividend Finance lawsuits
These are allegations, not findings. On March 8, 2024 the Minnesota Attorney General sued Dividend Solar Finance, GoodLeap, Sunlight Financial and Solar Mosaic in Hennepin County, alleging about $35 million in hidden fees on more than 5,000 Minnesota solar purchases and that most of the fees raised borrowers' costs by 15% to 30%.[4] We could not confirm the current status. The CFPB's 2024 report describes how such fees can raise the loan principal by 30% or more above the cash price.[5]
Your options with a Dividend Finance loan
- Pay off or refinance (no prepayment penalty, per Dividend).[1]
- Sell and pay off, or have a qualified buyer assume the loan.[2]
- Raise installer problems with the loan holder. Consumer credit contracts arranged by a seller must carry the FTC Holder Rule notice, which says any holder of the contract is subject to the claims and defenses you could raise against the seller, and that your recovery cannot exceed what you paid under the contract.[6]
- Dispute credit reporting by phone or at the Cincinnati address above.[1]
Complaints. The CFPB accepts complaints about personal loans (installment loans) and several other products; it says most companies respond within 15 days.[8] You can also file with your state attorney general. How-to: filing a CFPB complaint against a solar company.
We do not advise homeowners to stop making payments or breach contractual obligations. Missed payments can trigger late fees and other penalties under your loan agreement; a dispute is raised in writing while you keep paying.
